The Corporate Interaction Cell (CIC) of Shri Ram College of Commerce, in collaboration with WeekendR, organisedDeep Dive++, a two-day hands- on workshop on SPSS on the 20th and 21st of February, 2014. WeekendR is an event innovation and management venture which caters to myriad spheres like software trainings, careers and placements, skills and interests for the student community.
SPSS, which stands for Statistical Product and Service Solutions,is a Windows-based program, widely used for statistical analysis in social sciences. It can be used to perform data entry and analysis and for creation of tables and graphs.
Day 1 of the workshop was graced by the presence and expertise of Dr. AnuradhaChetiya, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Statistics, Ramjas College. The workshop saw active participation from colleges like Delhi School of Economics, SRCC, Ramjas, Hansraj, Maitreyi, and universities such as Amity and Ambedkar University.
Dr. Chetiya began the workshop by giving a brief introduction on basic statistical concepts and then moved on to the introduction of SPSS. She was then accompanied by Mr. Vishal Deo, also an Assistant Professor at Ramjas, who helped the attendees in understanding the intricacies of the software. Topics like data entry, SPSS Data file, Descriptive Stats with SPSS, Charts and Graphs with SPSS, Dealing with output in SPSS, etc., were covered on the first day through an extremely interactive session.
The second day also witnessed the presence of the prolific speakers and the inquisitive audience. The topics that were covered on day two were t- test, tabulation, correlation and regression.
Both the days of the workshop were tremendously informative and insightful. Special mention must be given to the fact that the doubts and queries of the attendees were entertained in the most orderly manner.
Akanksha Gupta, an organiser of the event, said, “Basically, we organise such workshops because of the fact that the knowledge of software like SPSS are not a part of our curriculum, but are extremely important in real business environments.”
She also added, “We got an overwhelming response despite a lot of other fests and activities going on in college, which was extremely encouraging.”
PoojaRastogi, a student from Amity Business School, Amity University, said, “Being an MBA student, this workshop proved to be an extremely fruitful and a great learning experience. The speakers were very adept in delivering the intricacies of SPSS.”
In all, Deep Dive++ undoubtedly proved to be an insightful and enriching experience for all its attendees, enhancing their proficiency in technical know- how, thereby making them more industry and job-fit.
