When you’re as crazy about food as me, you just don’t eat it, you see it, smell it, touch it, praise the creator as well as the creation and then finally you take the first bite. And this is how food is meant to be enjoyed, thus when Anubhav came up with the idea of food walks three years ago, it came as a boon for foodies. Delhi has since time been known for its delicious yet cheap street food. Old Delhi areas, Chandini Chowk in particular, are a foodie’s paradise. So a chance to relish food of Ramlila’s stalls, that too in Chandni Chowk, was tempting beyond words.
What made the food walk held on 11th October by Delhi Food Walks even more special was the fact that it was only for foreigners and some NRIs who had never tasted Delhi’s street food. The group consisted of several people from Germany and some more from different parts of the world. Vivian, a young German, couldn’t hide her excitement about the prospect of tasting so many different food items. So, as we started our walking at 7, in the busy roads of Chandni Chowk, our tongues were already tingling with anticipation of good food. Our first stop was the Fruit Chaat stall, which was selling a rather peculiar type of Chaat. At first everyone was hesitant, but the second we had the first bite, our faces showed a different kind of happiness and it was absolutely delicious. The evening involved a lot more of eating, from Aloo Chaat to Rajasthani Thali complete with deal Baatichurma. Makkeki roti with saag however became an instant hit with the German group. The highlight, however, was certainly the huge variety of Kulfi which was available in every possible taste from Paan flavored to Imli flavored. The ice-cream too was being made in a special way, right in front of eyes, while squeezing the fruits over ice and, never in our life before had we tasted such a delicious thing which seemed healthy as well.
The evening came to an end while we saw Raavan making plans to abduct the pretty Sita, while a smile of contentment and happiness could be clearly seen on every face. Now one might think why put in so much efforts to eat, when you can do it right from home, so I will give you not one or two, rather three reasons to become a part of one such food walk, firstly you get to taste a lot of variety of food while not spending much, secondly you get to eat with people who are as crazy about food as you and and most importantly, food never tastes that good alone.
